BJP will get votes of neither Ali nor Bajrang Bali, says Mayawati

BJP will neither get votes of Ali nor Bajrang Bali'

Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati said on Friday that the BJP would win the votes of neither Ali nor Bajrang Bali in Uttar Pradesh’s Lok Sabha contest. She was speaking at a rally jointly organised by the BSP, SP and RLD in support of Samajwadi Party candidate Dharmendra Yadav.

Response to Yogi Adityanath

Mayawati was responding to a recent remark by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who had claimed that the alliance of the three parties might have Ali, but the BJP had Bajrang Bali. She said she wanted to draw public attention to that statement before turning to the election.

The BSP chief said it was not she who had assigned a caste to Bajrang Bali, but Adityanath, who had described him as a ‘vanvasi’ and a Dalit. She thanked the chief minister, saying he had given her important information about her ancestors, and remarked that the alliance now had both Ali and Bajrang Bali on its side. Their coming together, she said, would bring the alliance excellent results.

“Both are our own thus we need both Ali just as Bajrang Bali,” Mayawati said, adding that people of Bajrang Bali’s community had already turned away from both the BJP and the Congress.

Her message to voters

The rally was the second joint meeting of the alliance. Mayawati claimed that in this election the ‘Namo’ supporters were leaving power and those who chant ‘Jai Bhim’ were coming in, which she said was also what the country needed.

What happened next

The BJP won 303 of 543 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha election, counted on 23 May 2019.
