India वोट Kar exists to give voters accurate, neutral and easy-to-find information about their elections and their elected representatives. This policy explains where our information comes from, how we check it, and how we correct it when it is wrong.
1. Non-partisan by design
- We cover every party and every candidate with the same facts in the same format. A profile records what a member’s constituency, party, term and election result are, not whether they are good at the job.
- We use neutral language, and we do not publish endorsements, ratings of politicians or predictions presented as fact.
- No party, candidate or government body reviews or approves our content before it is published.
2. Where our information comes from
We prefer primary, official sources and use others only to fill gaps:
- Official sources: the Election Commission of India and state Chief Electoral Officers (results, electorate, turnout, constituency details), the Lok Sabha and state Legislative Assembly websites (members, vacancies), and official gazette notifications.
- Public research: PRS Legislative Research, including the photographs it publishes under an open licence.
- Published reporting and reference works, for recent changes that official sites have not yet published, such as by-elections, resignations and changes of party.
3. How we check it
- Two sources for numbers. Election results are published only where two independent sources agree on the leading candidates’ parties and votes. Where they disagree, we leave the figure out rather than guess.
- Identity before names. Two people can share a name, and one person’s name can be spelt several ways. We match members to seats by constituency and official records, never by name alone.
- One register. Seat, member and party data are kept in a single register, and every page is built from it. A correction made once therefore appears on every page that shows that fact.
- Regular re-checks. We re-check members, vacancies and parties against official sources, and update pages when a seat falls vacant, a by-election is held or a member formally changes party.
- Party changes. A member is shown under the party they were elected on until official or two independent sources confirm that they have formally joined another.
4. Privacy of the people we cover
We publish information about legislators and candidates in their public role. We do not publish their residential addresses or personal phone numbers, even where an official source does.
5. Images
- Photographs are credited on the page, with the licence under which we use them.
- On MLA profiles without a photograph, we show a map of the constituency’s location instead.
- Images created with AI tools are labelled “Illustration: AI-generated”. We never use them to depict real people or real events.
6. News
Our election-news sections show headlines from published news outlets, chosen automatically, and link to the original article on the publisher’s website. The publisher is responsible for the content of its article.
7. Corrections
If you find a mistake, please tell us. Email info@indiavotekar.com with:
- the address of the page;
- what is wrong; and
- if you can, a source we can check, such as an official notification or a result sheet.
We acknowledge every request, aim to do so within 24 hours, and decide it within 15 days. When we confirm an error, we correct it on every page that shows it. Requests from a legislator or candidate about their own profile, including requests to remove an image, are handled the same way. Formal complaints about content follow our Complaint Redressal process.
