Mamata Banerjee sworn in as West Bengal Chief Minister for a third time
Mamata Banerjee has been sworn in as Chief Minister of West Bengal for the third time.
The ceremony
Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar entered the hall at 10.44 am, and his arrival was followed by the national anthem. The swearing-in began at 10.45 am and was over in about seven minutes. Banerjee chose to take her oath in Bengali.
Background
The oath followed the 2021 West Bengal assembly election, in which the Trinamool Congress won 215 seats and the Bharatiya Janata Party 77. After that result, Banerjee continued as Chief Minister.
The short ceremony marked the start of the Trinamool Congress leader’s third term in the state’s top post, and the choice of Bengali for the oath was one of its notable features.
