Subramanian Swamy says BJP wants the whole country under its rule

subramanian swamy

BJP leader Subramanian Swamy said in Goa on Sunday that the party is keen to see the entire country come under its rule, and that the disappointment of loyal workers after defectors were made ministers was only temporary. He was in the state for a party function.

Background to the remarks

In July, 10 Congress MLAs joined the BJP in Goa, taking the party’s tally to 27 in the 40-member assembly. Three of them were given cabinet posts in the Pramod Sawant government. To make room, the Chief Minister dropped three Goa Forward Party ministers and an Independent MLA from the cabinet.

What Swamy said

Speaking to reporters in Margao, Swamy acknowledged that newcomers had become ministers while some longtime supporters had not been rewarded, but said this would pass.

He said that even Lord Rama too had accepted help from Vibhishana, Ravana’s brother, and that the larger good must come first. He described Goa as intellectually very important for the party and said it could not afford to lose the state.

Swamy said the BJP accepts those who adopt and speak for its programme, but would not tolerate anyone who, after joining, continued to behave as they had in another party.

Earlier result

In the 2017 Goa assembly election, the Congress won 17 seats and the BJP 13, with the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party winning 3; Manohar Parrikar became Chief Minister after the election.
