Congress and AAP seal alliance for Delhi and Haryana, say sources

After weeks of hesitation, the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party have agreed an alliance covering not only Delhi but also Haryana, sources said on Friday, 5 April.
Delhi has seven Lok Sabha seats and Haryana elects 10 members to Parliament. Both go to the polls on 12 May.
What has been agreed
The development came two days after the Congress president, Rahul Gandhi, said his party was “open and flexible” about alliances across the country ahead of the Lok Sabha election.
According to the sources, the Congress has agreed to amend its manifesto to promise full statehood for Delhi, excluding the NDMC areas.
What remains open
The formula for sharing seats in Delhi is still being negotiated, the sources said, and the two parties have not yet discussed an alliance in Punjab.
The talks had been difficult for weeks, as the Congress weighed the effect of a tie-up with its rival in Delhi against the advantage of pooling votes against the BJP.
What happened next
The 2019 Lok Sabha election was counted on 23 May 2019. The BJP won 303 of the 543 seats and the Congress 52, and Narendra Modi was sworn in for a second term on 30 May 2019.
