Google Doodle marks fourth phase of Lok Sabha election 2019 with inked finger
Google India marked the fourth phase of the 2019 Lok Sabha election with a doodle showing an inked finger, continuing a practice it followed for the first three phases. Clicking the doodle opens a page explaining how to vote.
The fourth phase in numbers
- More than 12.79 crore people in nine states were eligible to vote.
- A total of 961 candidates were in the fray.
- Polling was held in 71 Lok Sabha constituencies.
Key contests
Among the main contests was Begusarai in Bihar, where Kanhaiya Kumar of the Communist Party of India took on Union Minister Giriraj Singh.
In Chhindwara, Nakul, son of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath, was contesting the seat his father had won a record number of times. Other prominent candidates in this phase included the BJP’s Babul Supriyo and the Congress’s Urmila Matondkar.
What remained
The remaining phases were scheduled for May 6, 12 and 19, with results to be declared on May 23.
What happened next
Voting ended on 19 May and the count on 23 May 2019 gave the BJP 303 of 543 seats and the Congress 52. Narendra Modi was sworn in for a second term on 30 May 2019.
