Rajasthan portfolios allocated as Ashok Gehlot keeps nine departments, including home

Rajasthan’s newly inducted ministers have been given their portfolios, with Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot retaining nine departments, among them finance and home. Governor Kalyan Singh approved the allocation late on Wednesday night on Gehlot’s advice, according to orders from the Cabinet Secretariat.

How the decision was reached

Besides the Chief Minister and his deputy, the list covers 13 cabinet ministers and 10 ministers of state. The 23 ministers took oath on Monday, a week after Gehlot and Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot were sworn in. The portfolios were finalised after both leaders held talks with Rahul Gandhi, the Congress president, in New Delhi on Wednesday; the allocation had reportedly been held up by differences between them over key departments such as home and finance.

Who got what

• Ashok Gehlot: finance and home, as well as departments including excise, planning, personnel, IT and general administration. Departments not yet allocated stay with him for now.
• Sachin Pilot: public works, panchayati raj and rural development, statistics, and science and technology.
• B D Kalla: energy, public health engineering, ground water, and art, culture and archaeology.
• Shanti Dhariwal: housing and urban development, parliamentary affairs, and law.
• Parsadi Lal: industry. Master Bhanwar Lal Meghwal: social justice and empowerment.
• Lal Chand Kataria: agriculture, animal husbandry and fisheries. Raghu Sharma: medical and health, and information and public relations.
• Pramod Bhaya: mines. Vishvendra Singh: tourism and devasthan. Harish Chaudhary: revenue. Ramesh Chand Meena: food and civil supplies.
• Anjana Udailal: cooperatives and the Indira Gandhi canal project. Pratap Singh: transport and soldier welfare. Shale Mohammad: minority affairs and waqf.

Ministers of state

Govind Singh Dotasara received education with independent charge, and Mamta Bhupesh women and child development with independent charge. Arjun Singh Bamnia got tribal area development with independent charge, along with industry and public enterprises. Bhanwar Singh Bhati was given higher education with independent charge and revenue, and Sukhram Bishnoi received forest and environment, both with independent charge, together with food and civil supplies and consumer affairs. Some ministers of state were also listed against departments held by cabinet ministers.
