BJP Slams Siddaramaiah for ‘Biryani Party’ Instead of Visiting Flood-Hit Badami

The Karnataka unit of the BJP on Monday attacked Congress Legislature Party leader Siddaramaiah in Bengaluru, accusing him of going to a “biryani party” instead of visiting his flood-affected Badami assembly constituency.

The BJP’s charge

The party shared photographs that it said showed Siddaramaiah eating with KPCC president Dinesh Gundu Rao, senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge and several party legislators, including MB Patil, KJ George, BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan and Krishna Byre Gowda.

In a post on Twitter, the state BJP called him a “Twitter preacher” and said he had found time for a biryani party at the home of a Congress MLC but not for Badami. It urged him to visit the constituency and hear out the people who had voted for him.

Siddaramaiah’s position

Siddaramaiah had said he could not travel to Badami, in Bagalkot district, because he had undergone cataract surgery and was following his doctors’ advice. He sent his son Yathindra, the MLA for Varuna in Mysuru, to assess the situation in the constituency.

The former Chief Minister has been criticising the Centre for delays in releasing money for flood relief. He has also targeted Chief Minister Yediyurappa over the delay in expanding the cabinet, questioning whether he could manage the flood situation alone without any ministers.

The attack came on Siddaramaiah’s birthday; he turned 71 on Monday.
