Ram Madhav calls CAA critics ‘knowledge-proof’, says Act is against no citizen

Senior BJP leader Ram Madhav said on Friday that the Citizenship Amendment Act did not target any Indian citizen, and that the opposition parties protesting against it lacked proper knowledge of the law.

What Madhav said

The BJP national general secretary was speaking at Osmania University in Hyderabad at an event titled ‘A Talk on Citizenship Amendment Act’. He accused the parties against the Act of not understanding its facts. “They do not even make any attempt to know the facts. So they try to mislead people,” he said.

He likened them to an old consumer gadget, saying, “These parties are knowledge-proof like we used have water-proof watch in our earlier days.”

Madhav also alleged that opponents of the law were trying to split the country along communal lines because they were unable to take on Prime Minister Narendra Modi politically.

About the law

The amended law is meant to grant Indian nationality to minorities, Hindus among them, who faced persecution in Pakistan, Bangladesh or Afghanistan and arrived in India as refugees before December 2014. Parliament passed the Citizenship (Amendment) Act in December 2019.
