Rajasthan polls 2018: Congress to release ‘report card’ on Raje government

The Congress in Rajasthan said on November 2 that it would soon publish a “report card” on the performance of Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje’s government, focusing on what it called unfulfilled promises.

What Pilot announced

At a press conference, state Congress president Sachin Pilot said the report card would compare the promises the government made with those it had kept over the last five years. He said the party’s candidates for the December election would be named after Diwali.

Pilot added that the Congress manifesto would take in ideas and demands from every section of society. The party had earlier said the manifesto would be unveiled by the second week of the month.

Public suggestions

Harish Chaudhary, in charge of the party’s manifesto committee, said people could send ideas by calling a toll-free helpline, by text message or through short videos. Suggestions could also be submitted on Facebook within a week, he said.

Rajasthan votes on December 7, and results will be announced on December 11 together with those of four other states.

What happened next

The Congress emerged as the largest party, winning 99 of the 199 seats that voted on 7 December 2018 against the BJP’s 73. Ashok Gehlot became Chief Minister.
