The Aam Aadmi Party will release its manifesto for the April 23 Delhi municipal elections on Wednesday. Led by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the party is contesting the city’s civic polls in full for the first time.

Taking on the BJP

AAP hopes to end the BJP‘s hold on Delhi’s three municipal corporations, which the BJP has run for the past 10 years. Last year AAP made what was described as an impressive start in municipal bypolls, winning five of the 13 wards that went to the vote.

What the manifesto is expected to contain

One of the main promises has already been made public. At his first public meeting of the campaign, held in Burari earlier this month, Kejriwal, who is also AAP’s national convenor, announced that house tax would be waived for all residential properties.

According to party sources, the manifesto may also include a separate section on sanitation workers. Over the past two years these workers have gone on strike several times over late salaries and unpaid arrears.
