PM Modi to meet BJP women MPs over breakfast in fifth such interaction

download 1 1

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was to host women MPs of the BJP for breakfast at his official residence in New Delhi on Friday, sources said on Thursday. It would be his fifth meeting in a series the party has organised for its parliamentarians.

The series of meetings

A total of seven such meetings have been planned, with the party’s MPs split into seven groups. Modi has already met MPs from the OBC, SC and ST categories, as well as those who had previously served as ministers.

A BJP leader said the aim was to give the party’s MPs from both Houses a chance to interact with the Prime Minister directly, so that he could guide them and discuss a range of issues, particularly those linked to Parliament.

An informal format

One MP who had attended an earlier meeting said the Prime Minister spoke to them directly and that the gathering was largely informal. Apart from Pralhad Joshi, the Parliamentary Affairs Minister, and Amit Shah, who is Home Minister as well as BJP president, Union ministers do not take part.

During the 16th Lok Sabha, Modi met MPs from different states in every session of Parliament and spoke to them about the government’s agenda.

Background

The BJP won 303 of the 543 Lok Sabha seats in the 2019 general election, and Modi was sworn in for a second term on 30 May 2019.
