How to Apply for a Voter ID Card Online

Any Indian citizen who is 18 years or older on the qualifying date can apply for a Voter ID card (EPIC) and get their name added to the electoral roll. With state elections due in 2027, now is the best time to register. Here is the step-by-step online process.

New voter registration (Form 6)

  1. Visit the official Voters’ Service Portal at voters.eci.gov.in or use the Voter Helpline mobile app.
  2. Sign up with your mobile number and verify the OTP.
  3. Select New registration for general electors (Form 6).
  4. Fill in your name, date of birth, address and (optionally) Aadhaar number.
  5. Upload a passport-size photo, age proof and address proof.
  6. Review and submit. You will get a reference ID to track the application.

What happens next

A Booth Level Officer (BLO) verifies your details and address. Once approved, your name is added to the electoral roll and your EPIC is generated. You can then download the e-EPIC.
