Congress releases Delhi list: Sheila Dikshit in North East Delhi, Ajay Maken in New Delhi

Cong Releases Delhi List, Names Sheila Dikshit, Ajay Maken

The Congress on Monday, 22 April, announced its candidates for six of Delhi’s seven Lok Sabha constituencies, with former chief minister Sheila Dikshit and senior leader Ajay Maken among those named.

Who is contesting where

  • North East Delhi: Sheila Dikshit, who will take on the BJP’s Manoj Tiwari.
  • New Delhi: Ajay Maken.
  • Chandni Chowk: JP Agarwal, who faces the BJP’s Dr Harsh Vardhan.
  • East Delhi: Arvinder Singh Lovely.
  • North West Delhi (SC): Rajesh Lilothia.
  • West Delhi: Mahabal Mishra, who is up against the BJP’s Pravesh Verma.

Maken’s nomination

After his name was announced, Maken posted on Twitter asking supporters to join him when he files his nomination papers on Tuesday.

The list sets up several direct contests with sitting BJP figures in the capital, most prominently the clash between Dikshit and Tiwari in North East Delhi and between Agarwal and Harsh Vardhan in Chandni Chowk. With six names now out, the party has one Delhi seat left to fill.

What happened next

Voting in the 2019 Lok Sabha election ran from 11 April to 19 May, and the count on 23 May 2019 gave the BJP 303 of 543 seats and the Congress 52.
