ACB files 3 FIRs over Delhi road, sewer contracts; Kejriwal’s late relative’s firm named

Delhi’s anti-corruption branch (ACB) has registered three FIRs over what has been called a “PWD scam”, involving alleged irregularities in the award of contracts for roads and sewer lines in the city.

Who is named

One FIR is against Renu Construction. The firm’s proprietor was Surender Bansal, a brother-in-law of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who passed away on Sunday night.

According to the ACB, Bansal’s firm was allegedly given a contract in April 2015 to build drainage in Bakoli village in North West Delhi. ACB officials said the FIRs name Pawan Kumar, Kamal Singh and Renu Construction as accused, but it was not clear whether Kejriwal himself is named.

The cases have been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act and under IPC provisions on criminal conspiracy and fraud.

The complaint

ACB chief Mukesh Meena confirmed the cases and said the complaint had come from Rahul Sharma, who is associated with the Roads Anti-Corruption Organisation (RACO). Sharma had earlier gone to court seeking a direction to police to file a case naming Kejriwal, Bansal and a public servant.

The complainant has asked that the Chief Minister’s role be examined, alleging that he used his influence to bring substantial gains to Bansal and others. The Delhi government has denied the charge.
