MCD Election 2017: BJP launches Vijay Vikas Yatra in Delhi

Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari campaigned in the Najafgarh area during the party’s Vijay Vikas Yatra, accusing the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party of letting down residents of the city’s rural areas and unauthorised colonies.

The funding promise

Tiwari said that if the BJP won the April 23 municipal elections, the budgets of the three corporations would set aside Rs 425 crore for developing Delhi’s rural areas. During his roadshow he gave the split as Rs 200 crore each for the South and North Delhi Municipal Corporations and Rs 25 crore for the East Delhi Municipal Corporation, to be used for maintaining rural areas.

According to Tiwari, the money would go towards community centres, drainage, and the upkeep of roads and parks in rural parts of the city.

The yatra

The yatra started in the morning and Tiwari went through 27 wards, most of them in semi-urban areas. Throughout the day he repeated his charge that both the Congress and AAP had “betrayed” people living in villages and unauthorised colonies.
