MCD Election 2017: Amit Shah urges BJP workers to win Delhi’s civic polls

BJP president Amit Shah attacked the Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi while addressing party workers ahead of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections, alleging that corruption had grown under Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and that voters should punish it.

A push for the civic polls

Shah pointed to the party’s recent wins in the assembly elections and argued that success in the municipal contest would help the BJP move towards power in the national capital. Gesturing at a map of India placed near the stage, he said that much of the country was turning “saffron” while Delhi remained a “white spot”, and he asked workers to make sure the party won the civic polls.

He said the BJP had won almost everywhere since 2014, with Delhi and Bihar the exceptions, and that workers should leave the meeting determined to close those gaps so the party’s flag could fly over the capital.

Charges against the Delhi government

Shah also accused Kejriwal of picking fights with the Centre for political reasons. The Aam Aadmi Party governs Delhi, while the BJP was campaigning to retain control of the city’s municipal bodies.
