Yogi Adityanath sworn in as UP chief minister, pledges ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’

Yogi Adityanath was sworn in as Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh at a ceremony in Lucknow, and said his government would follow Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s slogan of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas”.

First steps

After the ceremony, the new chief minister was scheduled to chair his first Cabinet meeting and then address the media at 5 pm. The farm loan waiver that Modi and BJP president Amit Shah had promised while campaigning in the seven-phase assembly election was expected to be the main item at that first Cabinet meeting.

What the new chief minister said

  • He pledged to create jobs in the state and to put Uttar Pradesh on a fast track of development.
  • He said the state had suffered greatly over the last 17 years under governments of the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party, and promised to work for every community.
  • Prime Minister Modi said he was confident the new team would spare no effort to turn UP into “Uttam Pradesh”, and predicted record development.

Ministers of State

Several leaders took oath as Ministers of State:

  • As Ministers of State: Gulab Devi, Jai Prakash Nishad, Archana Pandey.
  • Anil Rajbhar, Swati Singh, Swatantra Dev Singh, Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary, Dharam Singh Saini, Suresh Rana, Upendra Tiwari, Mahendra Singh and Anupama Jaiswal as Ministers of State with independent charge. Governor Ram Naik administered the oath to Anupama Jaiswal.
