Dozens of political and social activists, among them a senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader, joined the BJP in Jammu on Wednesday, according to a party official.

Who joined

According to a party spokesman, those joining included Krishan Kumar Dingra, the NCP’s state vice president, along with Rattan Chand, chairman of its Scheduled Caste and Backward Class cell, Ved Raj Bharti, the joint state secretary, and Dewan Chand, the state cashier. They were inducted at the BJP headquarters with senior leaders such as Ashok Kaul, the party’s state general secretary (organisation), present.

Others who joined included Tilak Raj, described as president of ex-servicemen, PDP leader Surinder Khajuria and leaders of the Valmiki Samaj led by Asif Gill, along with a number of other political and social activists, the spokesman said.

The BJP’s message

Welcoming the new members, Kaul said the abrogation of Article 370 had strengthened people’s faith in the BJP and showed that power was meant to serve the nation and society.

The inductions followed Parliament’s decision in August 2019 to end the special status of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 and to reorganise the state into two union territories.
