Mamata Banerjee Says Values of India’s Founding Fathers Are Being Undermined
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Monday that she was saddened to see the values championed by India’s founding fathers being undermined.

Banerjee made the remark in a post on Twitter marking the anniversary of the formation of the interim government of undivided India in 1946. She recalled that the interim government had been set up on this day and remained in office until August 1947, and added: “I am saddened to see that many of the values our founding fathers stood for are being undermined.”
Background
The interim government, sometimes called the provisional government, came into being in 1946 and lasted until the country won independence on August 15, 1947.
In the 2016 West Bengal assembly election, the Trinamool Congress won 211 seats, the Congress 44 and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) 26, and Mamata Banerjee was Chief Minister after the election.
