What the movement aims to do

The campaign seeks to persuade people to make sport and fitness a priority in their daily routines. State governments, companies and well-known personalities are expected to take part to help make the launch a success. Entry to the inaugural event is restricted to holders of a Press Information Bureau card.

The Prime Minister’s appeal

In his Mann Ki Baat radio address on August 25, Modi urged people to mark National Sports Day with enthusiasm. He also asked them to visit iconic places and to travel to spots known for nature and wildlife.

Summing up his requests, he called on people to visit places linked to Mahatma Gandhi as part of his 150th Jayanti, to strengthen the Poshan Abhiyan nutrition campaign, and to “be a part of Fit India movement”.
