Final days

He died at around 10.30 am, a week after he was admitted to the hospital. He leaves behind two sons, a daughter and his wife, Sunaina Kumari.

Tributes

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Twitter that Paswan had worked hard for the poor and the marginalised, had always spoken up for the rights of farmers and young people, and had done notable social work. “Pained by his demise. Condolences to his family and supporters,” Modi wrote. Former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said his death was an irreparable loss to the party.

Political career

Paswan was a four-time MP. He was first elected to the Lok Sabha in 1999 and won again in 2004 and in 2014. In May 2019 he retained Samastipur for a fourth term on an LJP ticket.
