Tej Pratap Yadav says brother Tejashwi is surrounded by RSS men

Tej Pratap assaults sibling Tejashwi for vicinity to RSS

Tej Pratap Yadav, elder son of jailed RJD chief Lalu Prasad, on Wednesday attacked his younger brother Tejashwi Yadav, saying he was not listening to him and was surrounded by people from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.

Campaigning against the RJD

Tej Pratap made the remarks at an election meeting in Jehanabad, where he was campaigning for Chandra Prakash, the candidate of the Lalu-Rabri Morcha, the outfit he launched last month after reportedly being sidelined in the RJD. He has been openly campaigning against the official RJD candidate in the constituency for the past week.

He said his younger brother was ignoring him and rejecting his advice, and claimed that if their father had been out of jail, he would have stood with him. Urging people to vote for his candidate, he said the RJD’s Jehanabad nominee, Surendra Yadav, was a weak candidate who had twice contested the seat without success. He maintained that the Lalu-Rabri Morcha was part of the RJD.

Background

Lalu Prasad is being treated at a government hospital in Ranchi after his conviction in fodder scam cases. Under the Grand Alliance seat-sharing formula for Bihar’s 40 Lok Sabha seats, the RJD is contesting 19, the Congress nine, and smaller allies the remaining 12. The state’s final phases of voting were scheduled for May 12 and May 19.

What happened next

Results declared on 23 May 2019 gave the BJP 303 of the 543 Lok Sabha seats nationally and the Congress 52.
