Home Ministry asks Rahul Gandhi to clarify citizenship after Subramanian Swamy complaint

The Union Home Ministry has issued a notice to Congress president Rahul Gandhi asking him to state his factual position, within a fortnight, on a complaint questioning his citizenship. The notice was issued on Monday.
The complaint
According to the ministry’s letter, it received a representation from BJP MP Subramanian Swamy saying that a company called Backups Limited was registered in the United Kingdom in 2003, with Gandhi as one of its directors.
Swamy’s letter said the company’s annual returns filed on October 10, 2005 and October 31, 2006 gave Gandhi’s date of birth as June 19, 1970 and listed his nationality as British.
What the ministry asked
The notice added that the company’s dissolution application dated February 17, 2009 also gave Gandhi’s nationality as British. It asked him to inform the ministry of the actual position within a fortnight of receiving the letter.
