BJP to release its Sankalp Patra manifesto for the 2019 Lok Sabha election

The BJP was set to release its manifesto for the Lok Sabha election on Monday, with development and national security expected to be its main themes. Polling begins on April 11.
The launch
The party calls the document its “Sankalp Patra”, or pledge document. Senior leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party president Amit Shah, were to attend the launch. A party statement said members of the BJP’s parliamentary board, its highest decision-making body, which includes Modi, would also be present.
What to expect
The Congress manifesto had placed heavy emphasis on welfare, including a promise of Rs 72,000 for the poorest 20 percent of households. Against that, the ruling party was expected to make a wide range of promises aimed at different sections of society, especially farmers, young people and women, as well as the underprivileged.
The campaign slogan
On Sunday, senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley unveiled the campaign themes and publicity material for the election, with the tagline “Phir Ek Baar, Modi Sarkar”, meaning a Modi government once again.
What happened next
The 2019 Lok Sabha election was held from 11 April to 19 May and counted on 23 May 2019. The BJP won 303 of the 543 seats and the Congress 52, and Narendra Modi was sworn in for a second term on 30 May 2019.
