Lok Sabha Elections 2019: Priyanka Gandhi’s Lucknow meeting ends at 5.30 am

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra came out of an overnight meeting with party workers in Lucknow after 5.30 am on Wednesday, following a series of marathon sessions that began on Tuesday, a day after her roadshow in the city. The meetings focused on the party’s campaign for the Lok Sabha election due by May.
Listening to workers
After the 16-hour meeting, she told reporters she was seeking workers’ views on how to fight and win the election. “I’m learning a lot about the organization, how it is structured and the changes that need to be made,” she said.
According to party sources, from 1:20 pm on Tuesday she met groups of 10 to 20 people from each of eight Lok Sabha seats. These included Amethi and Raebareli, long held by the Gandhi family. Lucknow sent the largest group, 70 people. The other constituencies discussed were Unnao, Mohanlalganj, Sultanpur, Pratapgarh and Fatehpur.
Next door in the same party office, Jyotiraditya Scindia, her counterpart for western Uttar Pradesh, held meetings with leaders from his constituencies. Priyanka Gandhi was to spend four nights in Lucknow, which the party’s state leaders called unusual and “historic” for a Congress leader in recent times.
Division of Uttar Pradesh
Uttar Pradesh has 80 Lok Sabha seats, more than any other state. Rahul Gandhi placed 41 of them, covering the east of the state, under his sister’s charge, with Scindia responsible for 39, according to a party statement. Her area includes Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s constituency of Varanasi and Gorakhpur, associated with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
