Temples and cows an election stunt for Congress, part of BJP culture: Rajnath Singh

Temples, Cows Election Stunt For Congress, Integral To BJP- Rajnath Singh

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh claimed that Congress leaders begin visiting temples only when elections approach, while for the BJP temples and cows are part of its culture. He made the remarks at a press conference in Bansur in Rajasthan’s Alwar district.

Temples and cows

Singh said Congress leaders were not seen praying at temples before elections. He argued that cows and temples might be a poll issue for the Congress but were “an integral part of our cultural life” for the BJP.

Rally in Bansur

Speaking earlier at an election rally in Bansur, Singh alleged that the Congress, which ruled the country for over 50 years, had left India among the poor nations and had misled the people. He said the BJP did not believe in deceiving voters and could face them with confidence.

He claimed that the Congress had set up 103 ITIs in 50 years, whereas the Vasundhara Raje government had opened 958 new ITIs in five years. He further charged the Congress with damaging public trust in politics, saying its words and deeds did not match.

Remarks on Pakistan

At a press conference in Jaipur, Singh said Pakistan should ask India for help if it was unable to deal with terrorism by itself. He pointed out that terrorism and the Taliban had been fought in Afghanistan with American help, and said Pakistan could similarly turn to India.

What happened next

In the Rajasthan election, the Congress won 99 seats to the BJP’s 73, and Ashok Gehlot became Chief Minister.
