All 29 candidates in the election to Parliament’s Committee on Estimates have been declared elected unopposed, after fewer candidates remained in the fray than the 30 seats on the committee.

How it happened

According to a notification from the parliamentary committee branch, the House adopted the motion for the election of thirty members on June 24, 2019. By the deadline, thirty-one nominations had come in, but two candidates later withdrew. Since the number of remaining candidates was below the number of seats to be filled, the 29 were declared duly elected to the committee.

• Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma
• PP Choudhary
• Rajiv Pratap Rudy
• Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore

About the committee

The Estimates Committee is one of Parliament’s three financial standing committees. The other two are the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and the Committee on Public Undertakings. The newly elected members will serve until April 30, 2020.
