Rajnath Singh visited the National War Memorial in Delhi on Saturday and paid tribute to soldiers who died in the line of duty after Independence, before formally taking charge as Defence Minister. The Congress has begun examining why its president, Rahul Gandhi, lost the party stronghold of Amethi in the Lok Sabha election, a party functionary said on Tuesday. As Narendra Modi’s government began its second term in Delhi, a view took hold in southern India that the region, especially Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, had been short-changed in the allocation of ministerial berths.
