New Arunachal Pradesh government led by Pema Khandu wins floor test

Arunachal Pradesh’s new government, headed by Chief Minister Pema Khandu, has won a trust vote in the state Assembly only four days after it was formed.

How the House voted

In the floor test, 46 members backed the Chief Minister. The 11 members of the opposition BJP voted against him. The result meant the fledgling government had shown it commanded a majority on the floor of the House.

Khandu thanks his supporters

After the vote, Mr Khandu thanked the legislators who had stood with him, naming Kaliko Phul and Tuki among those he said had kept their faith in his leadership.

What happened next

Pema Khandu was Chief Minister after the 2019 Arunachal Pradesh Assembly election, in which the BJP won 41 seats, the Janata Dal (United) 7, the National People’s Party 5 and the Congress 4.
