NCP’s Chhagan Bhujbal misses voting in Maharashtra poll, says he was busy in Yevla

Senior Nationalist Congress Party leader Chhagan Bhujbal said on Monday that he could not vote in the Maharashtra assembly election because he was occupied in Yevla, the Nashik district constituency where he is seeking re-election.
Why he missed voting
Bhujbal is registered as a voter in Nashik city. He told a news channel that his constituency is large and that he had been travelling through it since morning without managing to cover all of it.
Confident of victory
The former deputy chief minister predicted he would win by at least one lakh votes and said the Congress-NCP alliance would take at least 12 of the region’s 15 seats. He said voters were angry with the BJP-led government over the farm crisis and over the Enforcement Directorate naming NCP chief Sharad Pawar in a money laundering case.
Background
In 2014, Bhujbal won Yevla by more than 46,000 votes over Shiv Sena’s Sambhaji Pawar. Currently on bail in a money laundering case, he had campaigned mainly in his own seat. His son Pankaj Bhujbal is contesting from Nandgaon, also in Nashik district.
What happened next
In the 2019 Maharashtra election, the BJP won 105 seats, the Shiv Sena 56, the NCP 54 and the Congress 44. After the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance broke, Uddhav Thackeray became Chief Minister in November 2019 with NCP and Congress support.
