Bhupinder Singh Hooda claims ‘the winds have changed’ in Haryana for Congress

hooda

Bhupinder Singh Hooda, a former Chief Minister of Haryana, has predicted that his party will form Haryana’s next government, claiming it is getting overwhelming public support. He was campaigning in the Baroda assembly constituency of Sonipat district on Sunday evening.

Campaign in Baroda

“Hava palat gayi hai (the winds have changed direction),” said Hooda, the leader of the Congress legislature party. He visited Mehmoodpur and other villages to seek votes for the party’s candidate Shri Krishan Hooda, whose rivals include the BJP’s Yogeshwar Dutt, a wrestler turned politician.

Describing Baroda as his stronghold, he told workers that every seat mattered and urged them to secure a larger victory margin this time.

Attack on the BJP

Hooda accused the BJP government of making false promises and failing to deliver on those made at the last election. Referring to the BJP manifesto released on Sunday, he said the party should explain how many earlier pledges it had kept before making new ones.

He alleged that farmers, government staff, workers, traders and young people had suffered over five years and wanted to be rid of the government.

Congress promises

Hooda said a Congress government’s first step would be to waive farm loans. He also promised to halve electricity rates and pay an old-age pension of Rs 5,100 a month.

What happened next

In the 2019 Haryana election, the BJP won 40 seats, the Congress 31 and the Jannayak Janta Party 10. Manohar Lal Khattar was Chief Minister after the election.
