Congress leader Rajesh Mishra declines seat on Priyanka Gandhi’s advisory council

Congress leader Rajesh Mishra said in Ballia on Thursday that he had turned down his appointment to an advisory council for party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, saying he was in no position to advise her. He added that the party needed to introspect.
The reshuffle
On Monday the Congress replaced Raj Babbar with Ajay Kumar Lallu as head of its Uttar Pradesh unit and reorganised the state team, which now has four vice presidents, 24 secretaries and 12 general secretaries. It also formed an 18-member advisory council for the general secretary, which included Mishra.
Mishra’s reasons
Mishra, a former MP from Varanasi, said he had informed Priyanka Gandhi’s office of his decision. Asked whether he was unhappy with the new state team, he called it an internal party matter and said he would share his views if Priyanka Gandhi or Rahul Gandhi asked him.
He said that in the current political climate the Congress should look inward and should encourage grassroots workers and committed, hardworking members.
Mishra, who contested the 2019 Lok Sabha election from Bhadohi, also said leaders should raise their views within party forums, and that the party’s disciplinary committee should take cognisance of what leaders say to the media.
