Priyanka Gandhi Slams Yogi Govt After Retired Army Officer Beaten to Death in Amethi

priyanka gandhi 2

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra criticised the Uttar Pradesh government over law and order, hours after Amanullah, a retired Army officer, was killed in a beating at his home in Amethi.

Priyanka Gandhi’s charge

In a post on Twitter, she accused the BJP government led by Yogi Adityanath of being busy concealing incidents while crime continued unchecked in the state.

The killing

The attack took place on Saturday night in Godiyan Ka Purwa village, which falls in the Kamrauli police station area. According to police, the 64-year-old was sleeping beside his wife and son when several people forced their way into the house and attacked him with sticks and rods. The unidentified assailants struck him on the head, causing his death. His body was sent for a post-mortem examination and an investigation is under way.

Background

Amethi was long a Congress stronghold and was represented by former party president Rahul Gandhi for three consecutive terms, but the BJP’s Smriti Irani won the seat in the recent Lok Sabha elections. In that 2019 general election, the BJP won 303 of 543 seats and the Congress 52.

Yogi Adityanath became Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh in March 2017.
