North Delhi Mayor Wants Photos of President, PM in All NDMC Schools by August 15

On July 26, North Delhi Mayor Avtar Singh told officials to ensure that every NDMC-run school displays pictures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Ram Nath Kovind before August 15.
The reason given
A letter issued by the mayor’s office said the aim was to instil a stronger sense of nationalism in children. Singh said he wanted young students to become more aware and to grow up with a deeper sense of patriotism.
The letter described the children as the country’s future and said the two leaders could inspire them. It asked that the matter be treated seriously, so that the photographs are in place in all NDMC schools ahead of August 15.
Not compulsory
Asked whether the direction was binding and had to be carried out by every school, Singh said he had taken the decision in good faith and expected it to be followed, but that “it is not compulsory”.
Background
The direction came after Narendra Modi was sworn in for a second term as Prime Minister on 30 May 2019, following a general election in which the BJP won 303 of 543 Lok Sabha seats.
