Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s flight to Patna on Friday morning developed engine trouble and had to return to Delhi.

What Gandhi said

Gandhi reported the problem on Twitter, posting a short video from the private aircraft. He said the plane had been forced back to Delhi because of the engine fault, and that his public meetings that day in Samastipur in Bihar, Balasore in Odisha and Sangamner in Maharashtra would start late.

An earlier scare

This was not the first such incident involving the Congress president’s aircraft. In April last year, while he was campaigning for the Karnataka Assembly election, his plane had a rough landing at Hubballi airport.

On that occasion, a sudden drop of 500 feet and a brief disengagement of the autopilot caused alarm on board. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation later found that the problem was caused by a mechanical failure, and the pilots were grounded for corrective training.
