Rahul Gandhi says PM Modi is afraid of Xi after China blocks Masood Azhar listing

The Congress turned on the Modi government after China blocked a proposal at the United Nations Security Council to designate Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar a global terrorist. Congress president Rahul Gandhi said on Twitter that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was afraid of Chinese President Xi Jinping and stayed silent whenever China acted against India.
The Congress attack
In a follow-up tweet, Mr Gandhi summed up what he called Mr Modi’s China policy in three points, mocking the Prime Minister’s meetings with Mr Xi in Gujarat, Delhi and China. The party described the government’s foreign policy as a political disaster.
Chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala called it a sad day for the global fight against terrorism and said the China-Pakistan nexus had once again struck a blow against it. He also mocked the Prime Minister’s hug diplomacy and 56-inch claims, saying the episode had again exposed what he called a failed foreign policy.
What happened at the UN
The proposal, moved by the United States, France and Britain, fell after China, a permanent member of the Security Council, placed a hold on it. It was the fourth time China had stopped such a move. The Ministry of External Affairs said it was disappointed by China’s stance and that India would continue its efforts against terrorists. India thanked the countries that brought and backed the proposal.
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said no issues would be discussed with Pakistan unless it acted against terror groups, adding that terrorism and talks could not go together.
