Patidar leader Hardik Patel likely to join Congress on March 12

Patidar community leader Hardik Patel is likely to join the Congress on March 12, ahead of the Lok Sabha election, senior Congress sources said. According to them, he may contest from the Jamnagar constituency.
What the sources said
The sources said Patel, who led the agitation demanding reservation for the Patidar community in Gujarat, was expected to join in the presence of party president Rahul Gandhi. His induction would coincide with a meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) in Ahmedabad, after which senior party leaders were to address a public rally in the city.
The Jamnagar Lok Sabha seat is currently represented by the BJP‘s Poonamben Maadam.
Background
The Congress has been concentrating on Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state, where it gave the ruling BJP a tough contest in the last assembly election. In that 2017 election, the BJP won 99 seats and the Congress 77, and Vijay Rupani was Chief Minister after the election.
