Rahul Prakash of the Apna Dal (Sonelal) won Chhanbey in the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly election with 107,007 votes (49.59%), defeating Dhaneshwar of the Bahujan Samaj Party, who polled 43,539 votes (20.18%). The winning margin was 63,468 votes.
