Vimlesh Paswan of the Bharatiya Janata Party won Bansgaon in the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly election with 71,966 votes (40.25%), defeating Dharmendra Kumar of the Bahujan Samaj Party, who polled 49,093 votes (27.45%). The winning margin was 22,873 votes.
