Mahesh Chandra Gupta of the Bharatiya Janata Party won Badaun in the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly election with 87,314 votes (41.04%), defeating Abid Raza Khan of the Samajwadi Party, who polled 70,847 votes (33.3%). The winning margin was 16,467 votes.
