Durga Prasad Yadav of the Samajwadi Party won Azamgarh in the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly election with 88,087 votes (41.17%), defeating Akhilesh Kumar Mishra of the Bharatiya Janata Party, who polled 61,825 votes (28.9%). The winning margin was 26,262 votes.
