Vikas Gupta of the Bharatiya Janata Party won Ayah Shah in the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly election with 81,203 votes (53.8%), defeating Ayodhya Prasad Pal of the Samajwadi Party, who polled 29,238 votes (19.37%). The winning margin was 51,965 votes.
