Can you keep your name on voter lists in two places?

The claim: You can keep your name on voter lists in two places.

Our verdict: False

The law does not allow registration in more than one constituency, or more than once within the same constituency. A false declaration connected with the roll can bring up to one year in prison, a fine, or both. If you move, the proper route is to shift your entry rather than hold two.

Exceptions and limits

Section 31 punishes a false written statement or declaration; it does not itself make having a duplicate entry an offence. Separately, section 62(3) of the 1951 Act voids all votes cast by a person who votes in more than one constituency of the same class at a general election.
