The claim: Anyone can get a voter's name deleted just by filing Form 7.
Our verdict: False
Filing Form 7 starts a process and does not itself delete anyone. The objector must be on the electoral roll concerned and must prove the stated reason, and the Electoral Registration Officer has to decide. The Election Commission says a notice must generally go to the affected voter, with a chance to be heard, before a proposed deletion.
Exceptions and limits
Under rule 18 the officer can allow an objection without further inquiry after one week if satisfied it is valid, unless someone demands an inquiry in writing. The notice requirement excepts confirmed deaths, and a voter may use Form 7 to delete their own name. False declarations are punishable under section 31 of the 1950 Act.
