The claim: Overseas Indians can vote online or by post from abroad.
Our verdict: False
Indian citizens living abroad who hold no other citizenship can register as overseas electors under section 20A. The Election Commission says they vote in person at the polling station for their registered part in India, on showing their original passport. Applying to register can be done online or by post, but that is not the same as casting a vote.
Exceptions and limits
Service electors, including Government of India officials posted abroad, are a separate category. The law lets the Commission notify classes of postal voters, and we found no notification covering overseas electors.
