First-Time Voter Guide: Registering at 18
Turning 18 means you can vote. Here is everything a first-time voter needs to get on the electoral roll and cast their first vote.
Am I eligible?
You can register if you are an Indian citizen and will be 18 years or older on the qualifying date. Youth can apply in advance on the four qualifying dates — 1 January, 1 April, 1 July and 1 October.
How to register
- Go to voters.eci.gov.in or the Voter Helpline app and sign up.
- Fill Form 6 and upload a photo, age proof and address proof.
- Submit and track your application with the reference ID.
- Once approved, download your e-EPIC and note your polling booth.
On election day
Carry your Voter ID (or an approved photo ID), go to your booth, and cast your vote on the EVM — confirming it on the VVPAT slip.
