NRI Voter Registration in India (Form 6A)
Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) who are Indian citizens and have not taken the citizenship of another country can register as overseas electors and vote in Indian elections. Registration is free and done online.
Who is an overseas (NRI) elector?
An Indian citizen who is ordinarily resident outside India for employment, education or otherwise, and whose name is not already in the electoral roll, can enrol using the address given in their Indian passport.
How to register (Form 6A)
- Visit voters.eci.gov.in and sign up or log in.
- Select Form 6A — Application for overseas (NRI) electors.
- Enter your details exactly as in your passport, with your address in India.
- Upload the relevant pages of your valid Indian passport and a photograph.
- Submit and note the reference ID to track the application.
Good to know
- You are registered in the constituency of the address in your passport.
- NRI electors currently vote in person; carry your original passport to the booth.
