Priyanka Gandhi Accuses Government of Tampering With Farmer Suicide Report

The government has tampered with and suppressed a report on farmer suicides, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra alleged on Sunday.
The allegation
She shared a media report which said that several changes had been made to the latest National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report on farmer suicides and that, for the first time, it did not give state-wise figures.
In a tweet, she asked why the BJP government was “so afraid of the truth” and claimed that farmers were continuing to take their own lives under its rule. She said the government had chosen to interfere with and hide the report instead of addressing farmers’ problems.
She urged the government to give farmers fair prices, facilities and respect, and to strengthen them rather than leave them helpless.
Onion prices
In a separate tweet, Priyanka Gandhi raised the issue of onion prices. She said onions were being imported to control rising prices while farmers who grew them were not getting a fair return. According to her, farmers were receiving Rs 8 per kg while onions sold for Rs 100 per kg in the market. She also shared a video of a farmer describing his difficulties.
