Dharmpal Singh of the Bharatiya Janata Party won Aonla in the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly election with 63,165 votes (34.76%), defeating Sidhraj Singh of the Samajwadi Party, who polled 59,619 votes (32.81%). The winning margin was 3,546 votes.
